Top 11 OVAs of the 80's

Description

Well, this is requested by :iconzepeda: so let's get started, shall we? My top 11 OVAs of the 80's.

1. God Bless Dancouga. The glorious finale to the Chojuu Kishin Dancougar and it was a blast. It all starts with Ryo Shiba training a group of rookies to be the new Cybeast Force. It's been years since the fall of the Muge Empire and everyone has gone their separate ways. Dr Hazuki and Laura Sullivan are now family,Masato Shikibu is still having daddy issues,Sara Yuuki becomes a model (Gee,wonder if a reboot of Dancouga will do the same thing?) and Shinobu Fujiwara does some singing!!! Guess my theory about Shinobu being Rie Fujiwara's elder and irresponsible bro was spot on. So yeah,if you guys haven't watched something spectacular like Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, you'll dig this OVA too. A big climax for the anime show in general and a big fuck you to Dancouga Blazing Epilogue.

2. Bubblegum Crisis. Since the Blu-ray of BBG is being released as we speak,it is clear to why a lot of people especially girls love this series soo much. It's like a Kamen Rider Girls...oh wait, there already was a band called that. XD Lemme rephrase that,a female VR Troopers in Snatcherville: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofr8qq… It's basically Bladerunner with KR Girls in armor. Nowadays,it is a cult classic and a huge one at that. I've seen cosplays, pics, fanart and a ton o' stuff too. BladeRunner's legacy will live on in Snatcher, this and Silent Mobius. Well done, guys.

3. Devilman. :icontea78iscool: Man,I get a lot of requests from this crazy gal and hopefully, the recent request will be the last. Not saying I hate her or anything,it's just that I wanna make my own thing or something like that or I'm just a scared little jerk. So yeah,Devilman ep. 1 is a perfect adaptation of the original manga down to the origins of Makai and the transformation of Akira Fudou to become the altered Amon a.k.a Devilman and wow,it is one satisfying but ambiguously depressing conclusion to Akira's humanity. The second ep was a disaster from what I've heard and yeah, after his fight with turtle ass,he calms down after his mom's death. WTF? Lots of pacing issues with the second episode and from what I've heard, the third episode had a bad luck on the creators as one of them died in an accident. Double What?!!! It was supposed to feature demon spiders and the only thing close we're gonna get to that is the first episode of Masked Rider Black due to Go Nagai and Shotaro Ishinomori being manga pioneers. Whatever the case,Devilman,no matter how awful the second ep is will always be a hit to us otaku and anime nerds alike.

4. Megazone 23. Originally planned to be a 13 ep tv series but since the TV executives didn't know what to do with it,AIC did the right choice and making it an OVA and man,it was a hit. What's more cooler is that Robotech fans in America was graced by what Carl Macek has brought to them from the rising sun: Megazone 23 as a new Robotech arc which was awesome. Carl Macek did the world a favor and bringing this anime worldwide!! It is now being turned into DVD,Blu-ray,Capablanca,Antonio Banderas, etc. Haruhiko Mikimoto who did the character designs for this awesome OVA is nowadays, standing around waiting for something to do with his life after he did character designs for awful harem anime which is sad because his works were much more soft, elegant and kind and not the type to be used for evil. It's really sad how things turned out. Really it is...I wish he were the chara. designer for Gundam Build fighters though. It would work if Sunrise would listen to me!!

5. Fight! Iczer-1. You saw this coming from a mile away. youtu.be/X8RjVUg4CKI?t=3m30s You knew this will happen. Woowoowoooo. You know it!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6Ck22… Zack Ryder's so awesome. Yes,Iczer-1 started off as a crazy ass one-shot hit manga in Lemon People magazine in Japan (Yes,people. That's what it's called. Don't ask why.) which the magazine is already dead as we speak. Created by both Toshihiro Hirano and Rei Aran,it was adapted into a toku-esque anime by AIC,Hirano's own company he calls home and strangely enough, the OVA has a fanbase lying around, even till this day,Japan still remembers it and next year will be the anniversary of it. Who's with me on this? Iczer-1 for some reason has a story similar to Kamen Rider which was intentional because it looks like it could be made into a franchise given the circumstances that lots of toku has no female mains kinda like Samus,Bayonetta and Tomb Raider. Japan, give us a reboot to Iczer, please?!! I beg you!!

6. Hades Project Zeorymer. You saw it coming!! youtu.be/Z_76uPUAgi4?t=15s Wait a min, that's not its theme! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkF13Y… Created by the same goddamn man who made the Guyver manga series and yes,HE MADE THIS TOO!! Breathe in and out and tell me you're ok. This OVA was said to be the most craziest and batshit OVA ever but who cares,it's like Guyver!! Everything makes sense now. Now if only people could see the manga and anime for what it is and don't get me started on Zeorymer Omega. That poop deserves to be an alternate timeline. Also,Hirano did a good job directing it. Impressed. ;)

7. Birth. From what people tell you,a good story is said to be told through the voices of the character and their interactions with one another and the struggles they go through. Being that this is the OVA hat caused a lot of animators to know the name of the great late Yoshinori Kanada, people wanted to do animation!! Of course, like martial arts,it takes time to develop a style. Well, since this OVA considers to be shallow in story, the animation is the story because it's sooo high-level animation. A lot more impressive than the digital animation we see nowadays. You wanna feel like you're with the characters and you wanna see how they get out of sticky situations. All round a good starting point for animators,if not, anime goers everywhere.

8. Transformers Zone. You getting sick and tired of G1 reboots of Optimus and Megatron and wanna see something different, well I got something for you to see. Transformers Z is a sequel to TF Victory which was meant to tell us another story of good vs evil. Victory Saber saves inhabitants of a planet which will explode in a couple of minutes but was intercepted by wait,Black Zarak? Overlord? King Poseidon even? Devastator?!! What's going on and he dies along with an exploding planet?!! WHAT?!! It turns out that a space specter called Violen Jiger (Metal name!!) has revived the fallen Decepticon giants we know and love back from hell or the Matrix hell side and given them extraordinary powers which is why they are able to take down Victory Saber in one go which makes sense because it's an entity that an outdated technology can't tackle, making the power level system of TF logical here. Y' know a new toy is released and gets weaker after every episode, this comes into play very well.

So a new leader will have to take the place of the Autobots in order to bring peace and destroy Red Falcon...Decepticons and Violen Jiger once and for all. Back in 1990,TF was dying due to popularity decrease which leads Takara to create the Brave/Yuusha series with Sunrise and TF Zone's stories continued in the Stories of TV Magazine back in Japan which I'd liked to show you but unfortunately, some asshole in Allspark.com decided that it was unnecessary..HAX!! TF Zone really feels like it was going to be a series which would be awesome. My fave character there would be Metrotitan because he's a zombie Metroplex. A blue one to be exact. And a Decepticon too. And btw,WereZilla, fuck you for reviewing the TF animes without proper anime knowledge and fuck you for dissing on the anime's opening,it rocks!!

9. Gundam 0080 War in the pocket. Tis the 25th anniversary of this OVA here and it shows that not only Newtypes can join in the fight against invaders but also anybody can too. Also,I did not know that Chris 'Mackie' was voiced by Megumi Hayashibara who is known for Lina Inverse from Slayers and a radical pop singer in Japan. It's like she goes everywhere I go. Damn man. Now I want Chris to do is sing for me. :3 Now Gundam War in the Pocket is another fan fave by Gundamatics everywhere and it goes to show that kids aren't gonna stand still and watch their land getting smushed by another bloodthirsty army. Also,Megumi Hayashibara, why you not make a Kamen Rider Song?!! >: (

10. Gall force. Already coming to the climax,eh? Gall force is an anime I've yet to see but judging from how it looks and the characters and its environments, looks like Galactic troopers but with girls. Awesome. Yeah, nothing else to say excpet for Obari's name in the second episode. Hehe.

11. Project A-ko 2. Plot of the Daitoukuji Financial Group. XD God,it's soo funny. Also,I know what you guys are thinking. Where's the first one? The first one is a movie so it doesn't count. I'm only counting O-V-As and not mo-vie-s. Got that? Project A-ko gets funnier and funnier every episode and is the one aspect that Bennet The Sage failed to see from its brilliance. A-ko is the picture of health and strength itself which :iconfightingleaf: Husky the wolf should take a lesson from,C-ko who is as childishly friendly as always and B-ko being the Coyote with an IQ of 300. I won't tell you what happens here,it's just a great laugh even with the eng. dub because the guy who plays Tony stark rip-off looks like he's having fun.

And that's all for today and tune in next time where I tackle the Top whatever underrated OVAs of all time. Dun dun dunnnnn. youtu.be/mfXqlfN1gcc?t=8m27s

#3 Devilman OVAs (I mean its series in chronological order; Devilman: The Birth & Devilman: The Demon Bird), is truly an Devilman anime masterpiece as it fully captures the true essence to the original Devilman manga by Oh Productions studio though the 2018's Science SARU and Netflix's remake of Devilman which is known as "Devilman Crybaby" done quite well all thanks to it's current popularity.

However, I do think the Devilman OVA duology done justice as it'll help captures any Crybaby fans if they wanted to experience more of the Devilman Lore other than watching the non-canonical Devilman OVA, "Amon: The Apocalypse of Devilman" (which I found it quite a bit lackluster and rushed), the 1990 spin-off to the Devilman Duology is known as Go Nagai Chibi World, and the 2015 crossover "Cyborg 009 vs Devilman".
